I’ve been listening to Linkin Park since the early 2000s. This is the only band whose discography I’ve listened to from start to finish. The newest album has been played more than three times so far. I am in my thirties; basically, I know Linkin Park with Chester Bennington. He was such a fantastic singer. When Emily Armstrong joined the band, I was so confused. For a while, I haven’t even listened to the new songs. Then I did. And it turned out fucking great. I mean, it is not the same; it will never be the same as with Chester, of course. But I also love the new Linkin Park. I listen to music from both eras. And I can hardly wait for the movie.
My first album was Meteora. I had it on a cassette. OMG, it was so beautiful. Nowadays I use Spotify, but back then I had a Walkman. Music had a different kind of value. I remember watching music videos on television. Life was so much simpler. But now the children of that time have grown up. Do you remember this song?
Now everything makes a bit more sense. As I get to know myself better, it makes it easier to understand others. This place can be really crazy, but if you listen and pay attention to others, life becomes more understandable.
Final Masquerade… Back then, I tried to play it on the piano. And on the guitar. This has strong lyrics.
My favourite dialogue from the band is Heavy and Heavy is the crown. But if you listen closely, it is not that nice a chat.
– Why is everything so heavy?
– Heavy is the crown…
I can’t speak for someone else. But for me, even though I live on the other side of the world and have never met Chester, his death was a shock. I grew up listening to their songs. I listened to his voice like a fucking lot. And he was gone. I asked why man? But I had a hunch. At that time, I already had my mental diagnosis. And back then I really hated it. It made my life miserable. It was a long road, but finally I admitted to myself that I was angry with him. But then I realised that even though he was a famous person, loved by many, he couldn’t be responsible for others, only for himself. It was his life. And no one else has walked a step in his shoes. May the earth rest lightly upon him…
