Stop being the good person!

It’s fascinating how often I encounter this advice lately. A YouTuber I follow mentioned it, and just days later, I read it in my Zen book, “How to Let Things Go.” I just love that book. Now, I find myself seriously considering it. Should I let go of being the good person, or not?

Since childhood, I’ve always played the role of the good girl, putting this image ahead of my own will and even my needs. Honestly, being the good person isn’t as noble as it seems. It doesn’t make you a saint. For me, it’s only brought misery and chipped away at my identity. I need to reclaim myself. It’s time for a change.

It’s only my second day since this realisation, so I’m still figuring things out. But I’ve started making small changes. In meditation, I focus on myself, especially through gratitude. That practice helps me see myself more clearly. I pay attention consciously so I can keep growing. My boundaries are almost nonexistent, but I know I need to protect them. Saying “no” is where I begin.
